BRIEF ABOUT PROJECT

The Hope over the past 5 years, after having delivered on multiple schools and clinic projects, is now planning to also focus on renovating housing. The projects we have delivered, stand as our commitment towards our mission and our promises to the Islands of Zanzibar and its people.

Most people on the Island of Zanzibar live in informal housing, and often lack basic needs such as sanitation, clean water, and food security. Poor living conditions affect entire communities, as crowded living spaces, dirty water, lack of hygiene and food insecurity contribute to disease transmission. As living conditions improve, more people can stay healthy and participate in education and the economy, thus reducing inequality.

The Hope with its Voluntourism drive will be renovating housing in the village of Kitope. The houses in Kitope village are in real bad condition, most lacking basic partitions/divisions in their existing structures. These informal structures lead to many other complications that the residents don’t realise and will see the benefits as soon as these upgrades are incorporated into the structures. As always, we as an organization cannot deliver without the unconditional support that we have received from its participants over the years. We want you to stand with us, as always, shoulder to shoulder and help put a smile on these people’s faces.

The buildings’ is in terrible condition structure wise, having old building construction carries various issues such as: cracked walls, broken doors and windows, caved in ceilings, and many similar structural deficiencies in which are in need of major renovation, the benefits of such are immense to the community and the people.

The Hope volunteers will be tasked to renovate the existing building. Some of the construction work will be plastering and painting the walls, mixing cement, pouring and levelling concrete, and fixing broken doors and windows.
